you do pay the price of 2MPG lower rating for the quattro vs FWD. For the additional $2100 (MSRP), I'd hope you would notice the handling difference over the FWD. If not, then why bother with it?

Haldex quattro is a pig. It adds around 187 lbs to car according the Euro stats. So that puts the 2.0T quattro TT at only around 110 pounds less than the 3.2's 3262 published unladen weight (AoA site). Not a huge difference, but enough to make it worth seriously considering.
Sure Haldex may not have the advantages of the A4/A5/A6/A8's lighter, quicker, rear-biased Torsen system, but I'm anticipating the AWD's handling advantages are greater than the FWD TT's weight advantage.
And remember, the 2.0Tq's 110 lbs difference over the 3.2 all comes off the front half of the car, so you get better weight distribution on top of dramatically reduced torque steer, oversteer, all-weather utility and wheel spin when compared to Front Trak.
Also note that the 2.0T engine, while not as smooth as the VR6, peaks sooner and longer across a wider power band. Add a chip and it'll blow the doors off the 3.2.
As you can see I've been researching the 2.0T quattro extensively for my next car. It's The TT I've been waiting for. Hopefully it test drives as well as I expect.
