ok... if that's the case, in your picture, there are cut outs on either side of that opening...
...which alone obviously wouldn't look right... So if there is an indentation under the filler panel on the US grilles.... that would help, but still seems like it's missing something... obviously.

What about trying this always wondered if it would work....
Take the euro plate put it into a euro plate holder then use 3M automotive double sided all weather molding tape and mount it like that.
