Default HPA test drives the CVP intake strapped to the 3.2DSG

Good evening Audi World! This will be our inaugural TT forum post...

HPA is a proud newbie on this board, and it has been a long time in coming! Earlier this year, at an R32 GTG and Waterfest in NJ, we offered a sneak peak at an exciting new market offering for the 3.2 owners, the CVP intake manifold.

<img src="http://www.hpamotorsport.com/forums/CVP/CVP-Kits.jpg">

The last months have seen the machining jigs prepared and the tooling built for proprietary gaskets to be supplied with every intake.

<img src="http://www.hpamotorsport.com/forums/CVP/CVP-Gasket-Set.jpg">

From the onset, the CVP's benefits for forced induction applications were clear. Offering flexibility for boost plumbing configurations through long and short neck configurations, better throttle response would be only the primary benefit. With better access to the exhaust manifold for service or heat dissipation on turbo's, the CVP is a clear choice.

<img src="http://www.hpamotorsport.com/forums/CVP/CVP-render-2.jpg">

HPA's goal though was to offer up an NA product that could seamlessly cross into any FI camp with notable benefits on both sides. CVP accomplishes this goal. Like any great product, CVP's design origins stem across many shoulders. Dating back to the initial Australian VW Racing R's, HPA has had much guidance and support to bring a flexible offering to the market. Proudly produced in North America, the CVP will support the current and coming generations of 3.2 platforms.

Before you tour the following NA dyno plots, we welcome you to download this video of our test subject as we take it for a tear down our local back roads. Through this video, you will be able to identify the key region of the RPM curve that is used during any acceleration or spirited driving run.

<b>Our test subject, Audi A3, 3.2DSG 4-Motion. WA(91octane)</b>

The video is post CVP install and is running 100% OEM software and cam profiles on 91 octane fuel. Our technician swapped the intake at the dyno lab between runs and captured the following plots.

<a href="http://www.hpamotorsport.com/movies/A3%20CVP%20Dyno%2012mb.wmv"><img src="http://www.hpamotorsport.com/forums/CVP/video-link.jpg"></A>

The OEM A3 baselined at 167HP at 4 wheels ( low, but please keep in mind, peak HP gains will vary dyno to dyno, it is the usable range that is defined by the dyno)

<img src="http://www.hpamotorsport.com/forums/CVP/dynographs/A3-stock-graph.jpg">

<b>By ONLY bolting on the CVP, the A3 jumped to 174.5HP with gains in HP and TQ through the entire full throttle powerband. </b>

<img src="http://www.hpamotorsport.com/forums/CVP/dynographs/A3-CVP-graph.jpg">

<b>What you see on this curve when overlaid with the driving mannerisms of the DSG equipped 3.2 is a real jolt in top end pull. The CVP offered up TQ and HP from 4900-redline in every shift. The A3 3.2really comes to life at every shift! </b>
<img src="http://www.hpamotorsport.com/forums/CVP/oem-dyno1.JPG">

<img src="http://www.hpamotorsport.com/forums/CVP/oem-dyno2.JPG">

<img src="http://www.hpamotorsport.com/forums/CVP/cvp-dyno2.JPG">

<img src="http://www.hpamotorsport.com/forums/CVP/dynographs/CVP-vs-OEM-gain.jpg">

What is interesting to recognize is that Volkswagen engineers programmed the DSG shift behaviors to maximize the 3.2's power band and to emulate the tendencies of any manual gear box. Nothing we could do over a two hour evaluation would allow us to access under full throttle any RPM lower than 4900RPM. Tip in, roll in, dropping the wood would always result in a gear selection and resulting RPM kick off from 4900-5000RPM.

It is here where the CVP, when further tuned with Cams and software will bring even more gains. HPA will set out over the coming months to develop software updates and a cam profile that will allow for a smooth transition forward into FI should it be desired.

HPA has always focused in on the usable portion of the powerband with any product offering, and from the video it should be clear, that the CVP targets this for NA applications.

Dyno plots like dyno runs are interpretive. Key is to understand what modification you are looking for and when you expect it to work for you. Anyone that drives their 3.2VR will quickly realize this motor under throttle lives at 5000RPM. &lt;b&gt;Whether you are at the ¼ mile track or on the interstate passing a bus, your gearbox will park you at this target at every off redline shift.&gt;

<img src="http://www.hpamotorsport.com/forums/CVP-black.jpg">

We will work with the featured A3 to display the further benefits of the CVP when both software and cams are optimized.

This part is not yet in our website as it has only been pre released. In the coming months, it will be "officially offered" on our site together with software and cam options

Default Hmm, big loss of torque throughout most of the RPMs to gain a little up top?

I doubt the average daily driver would be too happy with this mod.

Default Looks like an awesome setup, I'm sure the drive back will be hard...

with the tempation to open it up, but I'm sure you need to do some break-in first. Mind if I ask what the cost for the turbo kit is? Where in Indiana are you from?

<center><img src="http://www.hpamotorsport.com/B_Braun/TT2/wheels/DSCN0103.JPG"></center><p>I live in a little town in northern Indiana. I'm sure Marcel will chime in but I believe the twin turbo is somewhere just short of $40,000.00. But there other parts that should be considered with this power choice.
