Default Misc aftermarket nav questions.

Just got email from Pioneer that the F90BT is out. (I waited as the avic-d3 was on it's way out).

I downloaded the install pdf, but a couple of items are not clear.

1. The GPS antenna. Does the system simply get connected to the existing roof antenna? Or is the unit antenna required? (Those with an avic-d3 might answer). (I assume the roof antenna works with the XM reciever).

2. Its got voice recognition and bluetooth. Looks like the mic can be hung from the driver side sunshade or mounted on the steering wheel base. Has any one opted for a more permanent solution (maybe you have photos?). I hesitate to make any holes in my (almost new) car.

thanks

1) Dunno, 2) Put the mike in the overhead, 3) Why not retrofit RNS-E?

1. I know you can't use the roof antenna for the GPS on US audi models. Apparently theres a quick mod to turn the roof antenna into a dual purpose (gps and am/fm) antenna for the european models.

2. I would mount the mic right in the mesh area next to the map lights.

I have a question for you, I am in a similar situation, I am installing a double din kenwood unit into my MKII. Where did you get the dash kit (double din mounting bracket)??

I don't have it yet. I'm trying to decide between the Pioneer F90BT and the Kenwood 8120.

Here's a UK link

I'm not sure if it's available from a US source yet.

It's not available available through anyone here yet, and I have actually seen a car in Europe with it, and it looks horrible. Might be the worst double din dash kit I have ever seen. Also, there isn't a wiring harness available here either to the best of my knowledge...

There are a number of discussions in these UK forums. This is one of the betters ones.

check connects2.com for a lot of TT aftermarket integration equipment. (I'm looking into it myself)
