Okay, I have little knowledge of engines (I'm an IT person) so I am looking for a good opinion from all of you...

I just noticed something strange today. I had the hood open doing some cleaning around the front of my car, removing dead bugs, etc. I had to back my car up so my wife could move her car and when I did so I revved the engine a little, not even to 3k and I noticed a swishing noise like air either being sucked in or out. It is only just when I tap the gas and is done by the time I hit 200 rpm's? Being as I have never "listened" this closely to the engine before I am not sure if it is normal or not?

I know in my last 2 MK1's I had to change the diverter out b/c it was a POS, however being as my MK2 is not a turbo I assume I would never have this issue. Again, not a car guy I'm an IT guy so any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.


Then again it could be nothing at all?

I think you may be hearing the intake manifold switchover vaccum unit. It is located to the front driver side of the engine near the FPR.
