I'd like to trade in my 02 ALMS coupe for an MKII but I feel like the right engine/drive train combo isn't offered yet:
1) Will the 4 cylinder version be available with Quattro?
2) Will the bhp on the 4 cylinder be upgraded at all as seems to be the case in the B8 A4?
3) will the 6 cylinder get the improved A5 version of the 3.2L with 265 bhp and better mileage?
The negative reviews of the 3.2L TT in Car magazine make me nervous and the gas mileage is terrible. The A5's 3.2L engine would sure help the gas mileage and likely make this car a little quicker.
I like the 2.0L engine but don't want a FWD TT. A little more power output to mitigate the extra weight of the haldex in the 2.0 would be nice though.
The TTS might be an option but it is a bit overpriced and that front bumper design is truly wacky.

3.2 gas mileage isn't as bad as I expected. I'm seeing a solid 23 - 24mpg in my morning commute which has killer traffic. You do have to drive the car for economy though, you can't just wrap it out or the economy goes to ****. Keep your foot out of it, shift as close to 2k RPM as possible and it really isn't all that bad.

The TT's 3.2 is the narrow-angle V6, an evolution of the engine originally developed by VW specifically for transverse mounting. The A5's 3.2, I believe, is a completely different engine--a conventional 90-degree V6. Unfortunately, Audi has continuously updated the latter, especially with the addition of direct injection, while simply maintaining the status quo with the TT's V6.

you really should drive the 3.2 6MT before you dismiss it (I average 21 mpg, mostly around town and fairly sporty). I've owned an ALMS coupe, too, and the improvement in the MkII over the MkI is remarkable. The shape and interior aren't quite as striking, but the Crimson Red exclusiv interior is a real treat (check my picture poster). The most striking performance improvement to me is the reduced understeer due to the better balance and better rear suspension. If you are anywhere around Huntsville, AL come take mine for a spin and see what you think...

It will cost you $599, you will get a 45 HP increase, your gas mileage will actually improve slightly, and you can return the car to the stock SW in about 30 seconds using your cruise control button. In that mode, you can take it to the delaer for warranty work with no issues.
I have the stage 2 SW and Milltek TBE exhaust. If I fill up, get straight on the highway and set the cruise at 65 MPH I get 40 MPG.
