TT 2.0 vs. Golf GTI
Hi guys,
Am planning to order either a Golf GTI MkV or TT 2.0. Obviously they have lots in common:
--Underlying platform
--Engine
--DSG
--Even steering wheel!
Has anyone owned/driven both? Clearly the Audi has more social cache and some might say the Golf is a bit "boy racer." But beyond this, is the Aussie $30k price difference really worth it?
This is a sincere question, I'm not trolling!!
Thanks in advance.

the GTI, hands down...
if ya don't need Quattro, which from what it sounds like---you don't....then there really isn't much reason to get the sad TT 2.0.

Don't listen to him...he's just bitter. Drive both then decide.
The GTI is a lot of car for the money. I found it to be tremendous fun. It would be a great daily driver, I think.
The TT has some great technology in it, however. The Audi Space Frame, completely smooth underbody, Magnetic Ride, etc. really make the TT stand out in the field and I think make it a true sports car now.
It's certainly no longer a rebadged GTI but I guess you have to decide which car fits your needs best.

Mr. Negative strikes again...
Don't listen to a word this guy says, he is just mad because he can't afford a new TT. If you drive both you will notice the TT handels much better then the GTI and is more fun to drive.

Re: TT or GTI
The GTI is a better bang for buck car than the 2.0T TT... though, I have a 2.0T TT S-Line on order.
With that said, you have to ask yourself if you are the type of person who finds value in the social cache, in driving a car that is limited in production vs. mass produced, or that is built with lower tolerances and higher quality, and just plain looks better (subjective of course)?
At the end of the day, a 30k price difference probably isn't "worth it", but I've never bought a car based on it being a "good value". They all depreciate. Get what moves you and evokes more emotion, if you can afford both. Otherwise you may as well pick up a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla if you're simply looking for transportation and value.
Best of luck,
