Default TTS+AEM= CAI

So on a whim I decided to get the AEM CAI and look into what it would take to make it work on the TTS. I had this kit once before on my A3, and the power and sound were both phenomenal. From my angle, I can't see any aftermarket tuners scurrying to make a true cold air intake for the TTS anytime in the immediate future.

So I took matters into my own hands, figuring that most of the bends of this TSI must be similar to the FSI. Fortunately I was right and after some work down at my buddy's metal shop, and some crafty resourcing for the over-sized connector hoses and I got a good fit. In an effort to avoid any BS CEL's, I figured out how to incorporate the OEM MAF sensor/housing.

I am not entirely happy with the aesthetics of this piece, and I am sourcing out more attractive couplers as well as fabricating a heat-shield that will run along the side of the engine to control heat soak within the CAI. I am also going to shorten the length of the longest run you see here, to make the air filter sit more centered in the engine compartment. This will also allow me to take advantage of a couple of mounting points where I can stabilize the pipe.

I need a bit more time to run this thing in a few scenarios to give you all a decent testimonial. I will say this. The factory airbox is a constrictive plastic pile. The car is purring like she should, and the power gains are big in the mid-high end of the RPM range. It's pretty fookin' awesome actually.

I'll post up again once I have a finalized version, but for now...

Default I dunno man, I've yet to ever see an airbox that works better than the OEM one.

At least on an Audi. No joke, every dyno I've ever done with an intake on an Audi, I've lost horsepower.

Default Re: how hard was the install?

Install would have been a piece of ****, if I had already done the cut's and fab work. After the work it took to make the CAI have the correct "run" The whole process was about 30 minutes, to swap out the OEM airbox to this AEM piece. Thanks on the SB compliment it's really grown on me as well.

Default The problem with the BMC and the Carbonio/Carbonspeed is...

...that those are meant for the 2.0 FSI not TSI engine. Maybe the architecture and layout of the TTS TSI as opposed to the TT TSI, are different, but from what I've seen the piping run would be the same on either of those, just not the same as the FSI.

Neuspeed and Carbonio both make applications for this engine layout, but the designs don't sit well with me aesthetically.

Default I'd love to disagree... just cause I want to believe it can be better.. but I 100% agree with zerin.

I've got a stratmospher hyperflow4 on my B7 S4 and the second I put it on - it SOUNDED unreal, because you could hear that V8 just sucking air....and I've "felt" what seemed to be increases in performance... I've never dyno'd it myself, but every dyno read out for all of the intakes for the A4/S4 just haven't really shown they do jack... They look cool, and they help make the sound cooler (so for that, I'd do it again on my S4), but if the dyno runs are showing everything across the board on every Audi is actually losing a bit of power... why? I'd do it to my 3.2, but as Zerin said... what's going to increase performance?!?!

Default Yup I had the carbonio on my B6 S4, and sounded good, but I put my stock back on

and I noticed an increase of power compared to the carbonio.
