I traded in a 2008 TT 6 speed manual for the 2009 TTS, & I do not miss the manual at all. I can't speak for everyone else but the DSG is a joy to drive. I really have not paid that much attention to the lag issue everyone keeps talking about. And the 4 vs the 6 thing, it's like Plan Man says when you take the 2.0T through the range man that is a sweet sound.
I don't have any regrets about trading the V6 for the 4 cylinder.

I agree violently with all of your points except 3 and suspect you have not driven Porsches much - sweetest six's of all time in my experience.
Bostton's basic assertion that turbo lag + DSG does not a sports car make will come as a shock to Bugatti division of VW as the Veryon has both. If it good enough for Bugatti, its good enough for me. :-)

I missed point #3.
I too came from a Toyota inline six in a 2003 IS300 Sportcross. That was a sweet engine in a sweet (Altezza Gita) platform. That's one of the reasons I was looking for a 3.2Q A3. Closest I could come to a direct replacement for the IS, now that the BMW is no longer a compact. Never cared much for fours until now.

I take back my statement that I dont prefer 6's, I do like 6's but only Inline and particular motors are my faves.
Previous cars with SWEET 6's
01 IS300, pretty stock except for SRT Intake, H&R Coils, Front Bumper and Front Grille:
05 IS300 with Turbo Kit
03 NSX
Some others...
06 S2000 (little motor and nicer gearbox felt better to drive than the NSX!)
06 EVO IX (cant forget about the EVO!)
Last but not least, my current ride! 09 TT FWD, gotta love the interior and DSG! (All stock except for GIAC flash. Looking to do H&R Springs, and Neuspeed Intake soon)
NEXT: TTS once I find a "deal"
Almost forgot wifeys car:
