Default 2001 A6 'No Communication' with Radio help!

Hi guys. The car is a 2001 built, 2002 registered, A6Q 2.7TT sedan.

All been behaving fairly normally (except for 'warm up codes and headlight leveler failure) but when the 'wife' brought the car home and parked it earlier, I noticed maybe two hours afterwards that the radio face was lit up when parked (Symphony 6 disc etc) with the 'headlights off' backlights (normal day-running illumination) on and would not respond to any control inputs. She says it was playing normally during the last journey.

Noticed that maybe the drivers door LED is flashing more rapidly, but that may be a red herring. Car starts, drives, stops remote locks and arms alarm with siren 'beep' all correctly. All doors and lids are closed properly.

VCDS address 17 - Instruments, shows error code:

01304 - Radio
49-00 - No Communications

Address 56 (Radio) will not open communications.

Two things, fuse #37 is fine, and I don't have the radio code...

Update, just went out to the car again and it has been sat locked up, just fine, and the drivers door LED was behaving (I think) correctly. The Radio was still lit up, and I've read that the cure may be to pull the fuse but as I said, I don't have the radio code, and it's not written on the options sticker in the boot either...

Full VCDS scan below (all fault codes on radio and headlights returned, other codes cleared on 'auto clear' ok) .

Help please!

So, not being known for my patience, I just went and puled the radio to check the 10A fuse on the back of it. All is well.

Incidentally, the 'AUZ' number in the VCDS scan above, under address 17 (Instruments) is NOT the serial number of the Radio, which you'll need to recode a locked unit.

Figuring that which ever way I went, I'd have to interrupt power to the Radio, to either recode or whatever, and having read various stories about whether the code is needed after you pull the fuse (#37), I did just that, and momentarily pulled fuse #37, and re-inserted it..

My logic was that at least if the radio came back on it 'SAFE' mode, I could switch it off, and prevent the battery draining.

As it happened though, and as I have read in some of the stories about this, the radio, and all the dash lights, interestingly, went off....

Car starts just fine, Radio comes on, just fine, plays CD's and radio, and interestingly (to me at least- Cop = easily amused...) the back lights come on with the side/headlights, not all the time as I initially suspected.

Basically, car appears at this stage back to normal, and I consider myself one lucky **** not to have to get bent over the service desk at the local main dealers... but will it last??!
