Default Can I program a new remote with VAG if the car has immobilizer?

I have an 03 A4, 3.0. I just got a new key cut by the dealer because I only had one working FOB key. I bought just the key half of the FOB and had it programed but I didn't have the remote with me when I had this done. So now I'm trying to program just the remote with these instructions:

http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/Body/remotecoding.html

But the lights never flash when I press unlock. I have two spare remotes - one from an 01 Passat that looks exactly like my key (lock, unlock, trunk)) and the other from a 99 A6. And I think another from a 98 A4. I/m working with the one froom the A6 and the Passat and nothing seems to work. So, is it possible to do this with VAG Com?

Default Remote coding is unrelated to immobilizer key matching. Try this:

<ul><li><a href="http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/Audi_A4_%288E%29_Comfort_System">http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/Audi_A4_%288E%29_Comfort_System</a</li></ul>

Default When I go to 46-Central Conv, 10-Adaption, and select Channel 21...

and read, all I see is a field for a new value of total# of keys, then a stored value and test value box. Above are 4 boxes: Key, Blank, Adjustment, Blank. None of them seem to do anything when I press a key on the remote. It doesn't seem like they're describing the same options I see.

Default Stored values are "0" and the measuring blocks are all "0" I think

In 46, channel 21:
When I try to change the value to "2" and save, I get an error box that I have to click "OK" on. And the four fields at the top have some messages like "unavailable, or value" or something in red letters. I'll check again when I get home to post the exact messages.

In group 7 I think they were all "0" as well or blank. I'll have to check again.

Also, checked the batteries in the remote and they're fine. However, I did notice that the remotes that have take two batteries, while the remote that works only had one battery.

Another strange thing, when I changed the battery for my remote that works now, I did not have to reprogram the remote. The next time the key was inserted into the ignition, it started to work again. Usually I'd have to go through the whole reprogramming thing - so I'm thinking the remotes may just be different or incompatible. Would that matter?
