Can I use my Vag-Com to scan codes on an 02 Mini Cooper using the Generic OBD-II function?

Using Release 512.4 and a KEY or HEX Interface, probably ...
... but only in Generic OBD-II mode and we only guarantee that VAG-COM works with VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda.

see thread below- I used mine to check a CEL on my '06 Elise. Found a manufacturer specific code (went to a Lotus board to find out what it meant- the internet is a great tool if used carefully) and cleared it. No problems since. I also have a '03 MCS so maybe VAG-COM will come in handy again. I'll have to try it on my Cayenne sometime for the heck of it- nobody seems to make a VAG like tool for Porsches and they should- there would be a great market for it.... hint... hint...
