Default Can't enable cruise control

I've just fitted the cruise control switch (4E0 953 521 4PK) to my UK spec 2004 B6 S4 Avant. After a bit of a messing around I've got the switch and replacement steering column shroud fitted.

I'm using a HEX-COM+CAN lead with VAG-COM 504.1 (the lead is OK because I successfully changed the central convenience controller 46 to enable beep on lock).

The Engine controller (01) accepted the 11463 login code OK.

But the steering column controller (16) won't accept any code changes at all - it's stuck at 01012 (3 spoke sports steering wheel, trip computer, Avant). I've tried changing this to 01042 to enable the cruise control, but the code always stays at 01012. I've also tried changing the code to 00012 and 00042 - but it won't change. There's no fault codes stored.

The cruise control symbol doesn't appear on the dash when I try to enable it when going over 40mph, and the cruise control isn't working.

What am I doing wrong? Or maybe not doing?

Default Follow up - engine controller reporting fault code

....since I enabled the cruise control via 11463 login it's now logging fault code 18107 - wrong signal from steering column module.

No other fault codes on either engine controller or steering wheel controller.

Give some more details please, an auto-scan would be helpful...

As you can see the engine controller is reporting the cruise control message missing from the steerring wheel controller (this fault code only appearsed after I did the 11463 login to enable the cruise function) - and the steering wheel controller won't code to the correct value (01042) - actually it won't accept ANY code changes. Do I need a login code for the steering wheel controller?

Ok, the problem is defintily the #16 module and it's coding. There is no login needed to recode it.

Default OK - that's confirmed what I said in my original posting, now ...

can someone give me some ideas WHY the #16 module won't accept any code other than it's original value 01012 (3 spoke wheel, DIS, Avant)???

I know the coding I want is 01042 (3 spoke wheel, DIS + cruise, Avant).

I've tried 00012, 00042 and 01042 - and after clicking on the "Do It!" button .... the coding is unchanged at 01012.

Would removing the fuse which powers the #16 module be worth trying?

Yep, try the fuse trick. It won't damage anything.

Default Just done that, and ...

the #16 controller still won't accept ANY coding changes, AND I had to re-zero the ESP steering angle sensor (using the procedure on the Ross Tech website).

I've been thinking (dangerous phrase!)... Are there versions of the #16 controller that have "hard" coding? - mine is an 8E0 953 549 S and reports this text "Lenksáulenmodul 0611".

Default Re: Can't enable cruise control

Have you tried this as it has happened to mine. The steering module that you put the stalk into....there are 2 main types, one with cruise, one without. They both have the connector that the stalk plugs into however the difference is this, if it does not have cruise there will be no pins in the socket. You will have to get a new 'cruise' enabled module to replace the one in the steering. It should not cost more than 90 pounds from Audi themselves.......hope this helps.
