I had the cluster replaced on my A4. The dealer did not carry over my original coding. So far I have reset it to work with the NAV, remove the seatbelt chime, and turn on illumination of the scales and needles. The NAV and seatbelt chime fix was fine, but I can not get the illumination to work unless the exterior lights are switched on (auto or manually).
Before changing it, my coding was 1000 on channel 19 of the Instrument controller (17). I changed the coding to 31000. Still nothing. Prior to having the cluster swapped, the cluster was lit all the time except for tunnels when it would fade off--this was normal, also on the B6 I had. Is it possible the new cluster does not allow for this setting?
I found this thread in a search which seemed to have a similar problem...<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/vag/msgs/12890.phtml">https://forums.audiworld.com/vag/msgs/12890.phtml</a</li></ul>

...you expected it. It's possible that Audi shut this possibility off and didn't tell/document that change.
Have you tried the values 1 and 2 yet, just for the sake of argument?

I could not get values 1 or 2 to work either. I started trying a=different combinations using the test feature and realized I had to retype the entire coding value in order for it to be excepted. The final value I used was 31300. Works fine now.
