Default ECU recode question...

I'm planning on picking up a spare 8D0----557P ECU from a 98 Tip car.

Has anyone successfully recoded it from Tip to a manual? I've read conflicting reports in the archives.

Thanks.

Default I have a 99.5 A4 1.8T 8d0----557P Quattro Manual

I'll be buying a spare ECU from a 98 A4 1.8T 8d0---557P Quattro Tip. I would like to recode it to the Manual version. I found an older post with the coding option (which I believe is the same as mine 06201).

I have to wait until I get the other 1998 557P ECU but I am guessing it will be a 06051.

I assume the "20" and "05" are the important parameters. I just hope it will accept the coding change.

Default The complete part number of both ECUs are 8D0 907 557 P.

Both engine codes are AEB.

Default if part numbers are the same, you could easily use the original coding of your original ecu...

...if it is not working, this will be the point to request here and i will have a closer look at it.

Default Thanks for the response...BTW, I picked up the ECU and successfully recoded...

the softcode...

My current Manual Quattro ECU is...

Controller: 8D0 907 557 P
Component: 1.8L R4/5VT MOTR HS D07
Coding: 06201

The older TIP Quattro ECU was...

Controller: 8D0 907 557 P
Component: 1.8L R4/5VT MOTR AT D02
Coding: 06251

I successfully recoded it so now it is

Controller: 8D0 907 557 P
Component: 1.8L R4/5VT MOTR HS <B>D02</B>
Coding: 06201

The <B>D02</B> is my only question. Is that a revision number for the firmware? Should I be concerned with that? This will be my backup ECU. I will have it socketed so I can transfer my custom chip/encryption board to it.

Thanks.
