I just pulled the following code from my engine. Can't find it in my Bentley manual and have never seen it before. Is it anything to be concerned about? Thanks

Default Re: Help with engine fault code

Basically it means low battery or cables have been removed.

Default Just a thought....

I don't know how old this fault code is. For a frame of reference, you could try clearing the code and run the car for a day or two to see if it comes back. My B5 A4 has this code, and it may be indicative that your alternator was replaced in the past. Have you had any battery or alternator failures since codes were last cleared?

I last checked codes about 2 weeks ago and this one was not there. No battery or alternator work since then. I cleared the code and checked battery terminals for tightness and hope it doesn't return. I might just need a new battery (after only 2 years?).

Default What does your MMI say about the Battery's state of charge?

How about 61-Battery Regul? Measuring blocks in there can tell you a lot about the batter and charging system.

FWIW, most 2005 A6's came with software in the Battery Regulation module that had some issues. There was an update for this that resolved most of these issues. Post the ID data from your Battery Regulator so we can see what software it has in it. Best way to do that is: Select -> Drivetrain tab -> 61-Battery Regul. -> Fault Codes -> Copy Codes. Then paste the results here (or to an intermediate file if the PC you're using to scan with doesn't have internet access. It doesn't matter if there are no fault codes in that module.

Default Re: What does your MMI say about the Battery's state of charge?

Sorry for the belated response, the wife had the car yesterday. Here's the battery reg data:

Friday,27,April,2007,08:08:29:24623
VAG-COM Version: Release 704.1

Address 61: Battery Regul.
Control Module Part Number: 4F0 910 181 E
Component and/or Version: ENERGIEMANAGER H11 0400
Software Coding: 0000000
Work Shop Code: WSC 01405
Additional Info: 4F0915105C von VA0 2411120479
Additional Info: Geraet 58827
No fault code found.

The battery meter in MMI has always show full, and I have already explored the measuring blocks in battery regulation and all the values seem OK. I'm not sure if the module software has been updated, WSC shown is my dealer's . Is it odd that the original falt code would show up somewhere else, but the battery reg module shows everything OK? Thanks for the info.

Default OK, if it reads 100% most of the time, you don't have the flaky version.

I don't remember what the flaky version number was, but it was often down to 5 or 10% after the car sat for a few days -- which was just plain wrong -- and of course it was asking numerous other systems to shed load.

If it was me, I'd clear that code from the engine and not worry about it unless it keeps coming back.
