Default How to test break vacuum pump with VAG-COM

I would like to test my break vacuum pump due to DTC 17887 Brake Boost Vacuum System: Mechanical Failure (see printout at the end of this msg). My car is A6 2.4 V6 2002 Multitronic.

I have check the hoses visually and by hand between the vacuum pump and the break booster, plus the one going to back of the engine. No obvious reason found.

How can I test the vacuum pump with VAG-COM, e.g. actuate it etc?

I have WinElsa procedures how to test it but I am not sure if it can be done with VAG-COM. There are two tests that can be done with VAG tester: performing short trip and performing final control diagnosis. Here are factory repair manual instructions:

Final control diagnosis:
1. Select 01 engine electronics
2. Select 03 final control diagnosis
3. Press ? (or something) key until text "Actuating vacuum pump for break system" appears.

Performing short trip:
1. Select 04 basic settings
2. Select group 008 for "Perform short trip UP 28"
3. Press 4
4. Press break pedal several times until the test is activated.

Is there any way to do these procedures with VAG-COM ?

BR,
Sami

Default Vacuum Pump

To test the brake vacuum pump with VAG-COM, follow these steps:
  1. Connect the VAG-COM to the diagnostic port under the dashboard.
  2. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
  3. Select the "Brakes" module.
  4. Select the "Test" tab.
  5. Select the "Vacuum Pump" test.
  6. The VAG-COM will display the vacuum pump's current RPM.
  7. If the RPM is below the specified range, the vacuum pump is faulty and needs to be replaced.
Here are some additional tips for testing the brake vacuum pump with VAG-COM:
  • Make sure that the engine is running when you perform the test.
  • If the vacuum pump is not working properly, it can cause the brake pedal to feel spongy or soft.
  • A faulty vacuum pump can also cause the ABS light to come on.
  • If you are not comfortable using VAG-COM, you can take your car to a qualified mechanic to have the brake vacuum pump tested.
Here are some of the common symptoms of a faulty dyson v11 cyclone vacuum pump:
  • Spongy or soft brake pedal
  • ABS light comes on
  • Engine RPM drops when the brake pedal is applied
  • Brakes feel weak or unresponsive
  • Brake fluid leaks
  • Vacuum pump makes a loud noise
If you experience any of these symptoms, it is important to have the brake vacuum pump tested as soon as possible. A faulty vacuum pump can cause serious problems with your braking system, and it can lead to a crash if it is not repaired.
