Default I wish I could tell you why.

2002 A4 1.8T's are not exactly rare. We have plenty of customers with that exact ECU and never had a report of "Can't clear fault codes".

As mentioned previously, I have that exact ECU here on the bench and it clears fault codes just fine.

My conclusion is that there's either:

* A previously unknown interaction between VAG-COM, your interface, and your PC which gives us some sort of timing problem that your ECU doesn't like, or

* An internal problem in your particular ECU causing it to fail to clear fault codes.

FWIW, switching your Revo software to "stock mode" does not make your ECU "stock". It switches to maps which emulate stock performace, but the ECU is still running Revo's code (otherwise you wouldn't be able to switch back to "chipped mode"). Note: I am not saying that Revo's software is the cause of the problem, although if you had a truely stock ECU that was matched to your car, I'd certainly suggest trying it. I might also suggest contacting Revo to see if they have any known issues or updates to their code for your ECU.

I'd also like to have a look at the data being exchanged between VAG-COM and the car when you (attempt to) clear fault codes. In order to do that, you should e-mail me privately.
