This is on a 01 VW Passat 1.8t AUG engine code.
I removed the tensioner to clean the gasket area and put it all back togather, lined up the way it was when I put it in. I had painted the links and the CAM sprokets to make sure it didn't skip a tooth. Double checked before putting the VC back on and the marks were dead on.
After reinstalling every thing the car seemed fine when starting it the first time. Now It takes a crank or two to start the car and the car drives normally with no back fires or noticable change in performance. But I got a solid CEL and the 16727 code saying that the CPS signal is too high. Also, when idling, the car has a irregular oscillation thats kind of slow. After clearing the code, it just comes right back. And when I unplug the CPS, it makes no difference in th engine idle (no jump or chg in rythm or anything) - it just adds a code for open circuit in addition to the 16727.
So since I'm not getting any misfires or loss of performance, does it sound like the Cam Position Sensor could have been damaged? Or, does it sound like the CAMs are a tooth off?
