Just starting to try and use the VAG-COM to diagnose the ABS system on my B5.
I'm on the WIKI looking and reading, but I could use a glossary of acronyms, for sure.
What does this mean:"The PR codes ( such as 1LB ) can be found in a sticker near the spare tire well. " What is a PR code and why do I need to know it?
How do I know where to look for the speed sensor outputs at each wheel?
Easy on the flames, boys.
Thanks
Dave

Please post your auto scan and the year of this vehicle. There are several possible Bosch units installed. Some do not require coding and logins at all.
The PR numbers identify what your vehicle is equipped with. Example:
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/...EDS/ASR/ESP%29
In this case there are 4 different brake systems and determining what the vehicle has is crucial. So, you may see '1LG' on the sticker and know it has this system > FNRG-60 (Teves/ATE)
FNRG-60 (Teves/ATE) [PR-1LA/1LG]
FN2/HP2 (Dual-Piston) [PR-1LX]
FN3 (Teves/ATE) [PR-1LB]
C54 (Lucas) [PR-1LZ]
That sticker shows the entire build list so to speak. Engine, Trans, Paint, Trim, and a bunch of other goodies.

Based on your auto scan, we can determine what measured blocks you need to look at.

OK, I get it. Thanks. Car is 1997 A4 quattro 2.8 5 speed.
I'm at work, but I found this snippet in an email from when I was looking for which sensor was causing a hard fault 2 months ago.
************************************************** ****
Control Module Part Number: 4D0 907 379 L
Component and/or Version: ABS/EDS BOSCH 5 4171
Software Coding: 0265109043
Work Shop Code: BB 34171
1 Fault Found:
00290 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor: Rear Left (G46)
35-10 - - - Intermittent
************************************************** ********
Now the problem is ABS intervention right before the car comes to a complete stop. I want to be able to monitor speed sensor output at that point to determine the offending sensor.
Dana, is there any value for me to upgrade from the shareware version, considering I have a 97 A4Q? I'm a software developer myself, so I appreciate the whole intellectual property issue. I just have to be frugal whenever possible.
Thanks for your help

Your module is not code-able. That looks like a very early Bosch 5.0 Abs/Eds unit.
The Measuring block to look at is 001. You will likely drop communication if monitoring this while driving. This is normal at speeds over 12-15 Mph.
There are several advantages to our intelligent interfaces and current software. But, the vehicle you have is very diagnostically challenged. Do you have any newer VW / Audi vehicles at this time?
Sebastian has an excellent comparison here:

If you are a registered user, there is an upgrade program:

Since you mentioned you are a software developer, you may also consider that genuine Ross-Tech interfaces provide protection from shorted K lines. This is not limited to radios, but here is some info:

Thanks Dana, that should get me going.
No, this 97 is the newest of my fleet of 4 Audis. I do want to try the adapter to connect to my son's '90 20v sedan. One of these days....
