Default Problem using "04 Basic Setting"

I am trying to run a basic setting using VAGCom under the engine control module. When I select "04 Basic Setting" And hit start/next as instructed in the SW I get and error saying this function is not available. Any idea what might cause this?

thanks

Default What eactly are you trying to do with Basic Settings?

On what control module, in what make/model/year/engine of car?

I can't think of anything in a 1998 car to which the Start/Next button in Basic Settings would apply.

Default Car is a 1998 A8, ABZ, I am in the engine control module, and

I am trying to run the leak detection pump. According to the Bentley page 20-100, this is a basic setting, address 71.

I am able to review the leak test status using display field 3, address 32, I am able to see the reed valve status.

If you know another way to run the leak detection pump I am open. Right now it looks like a software issue.

Thanks

Default What makes you thing that a Euro-Spec 1998 car

even has a Leak Detection Pump to run? There were no mandatory "OBD" requirments in Europe in 1998! I think even current European emissions standards don't require an evaporative leak detection system.

Default Please forget about the Euro Spec. This car has a US controllers and all US emissions

I can send you a pics if you like.

The car has all US spec controllers, and I can see the LDP reed status on address 34. I have pulled the left rear wheel well, and have been inspecting the LDP.

What is the deal with the software? Do I need to call your customer service, or can you help me with it?

Thanks

Default Have you met all the prerequiste conditions for the test?

I think you problem is procedural, not a problem with the software per se. But I can't say I've ever done that particular test on that particular car.

Try this: Go to 071 in Measuring Blocks. Then use the Switch to Basic Settings button after you've verified that field 1 says "Reed Closed".

Default I did that and I can verify the reed is closed.

Does switching to basic settings automatically activate the output, in this case activate the test?

Thanks,
Chris

Default Uwe, I got it to work. Thanks. The problem was the ECM has a 1 minute delay before starting the

test. Also the Bentley mis states the address, it should be 34. I verified this on another A8.
