Question about resetting the "check engine light"
My CEL on my 04 S4 came on the other day near my house and engine started running rough. I went up to the dealer to and bought a coil pack. Through a little trial and error, I replaced the faulty coil pack and the engine runs smooth again. The only thing is the fact that the CEL is still on. I haven't driven the car yet but my question is, does the CEL extinguish on its own once the car no longer "sees" a fault or do I have to pony up the dough to the dealer to reset the computer? They want $109 to reset it. They said it takes about 45 minutes to do it. I thing that's BS since on my M3 or my A6 I've had it done in about 2 minutes, just plug in a VAG-COM, push a few buttons and that's it. BTW, the car is out of warranty. Thanks....

Some AutoZone parts stores will clear codes for you if you are nice to them
Otherwise spend $70 on ebay for a Actron code reader with the delete function included and do it yourself instead of giving the dealer $109. This way you will end up with something.
Go the extra and get yourself the Ross Tech VAG COM
Either way you end up with something.... trust me.. if you own a VW or an Audi you will need it again.
