Default Reset Service Interval Indicator - Is the procedure complete / correct

I recently followed the procedure to reset the service indicator/interval light in my 2001 A6 4.2. The VAG worked perfectly, and I was able to reset the light, and also to set all of the various channels in the Adaption section of control 17 - Instruments.

My question is, when I was setting, and resetting all of the codes in channells 40 - 48, I was able to see a pop-up help balloon that informed me that I had to set several channells, in a particular order. When setting these channells, I noticed that some of the popup text indicated that the measurement is in Kilometers, yet the labels on the VAG showed miles. It sounds like one of these two is incorrect. Can you confirm, and correct?

Second question, here is the order that the baloon suggested I adjust / reset the values.
45 Oil Qty
42 Oil in xx miles
43 Oil in xx miles
44 Inspect in xx days
40 Inspect in xx miles
41 Inspect in xx days
46 Consumption oil in litres

What does 45 do?
Why are there two "Inspect in xx days" items
What is the oil consumption for?

BTW, I have been trying to purchase the bentley manuel from you guys, but I heard that there was a run of them for my car, and you are out of stock. Can you also confirm that this info would have been in the Bentley manuel?

Service light reset procedure

Default Depends..:-)

Some clusters will set these values in miles if they are coded for a country where the odometer shows miles and some won't. But the cluster will always tell you what the units in the channel are.

Look in the 4 measuring-block like fields towards the top of the Adaptation dialog. VC will tell you something like:

Oil in 1 000 miles

or

Oil in 1 00 km

In the first example, the units are thousands of miles. So if you put a 5 in that channel, it would mean 5000 miles.

In the second example, the units are hundreds of km, so to get 5000 miles, you'd have to put in 80 for 8000 km.

Make sense now?
