Default Transmission issues Tiptronic A4

Got a 98.5 A4 TIP 1.8T Quattro

Yesterday when starting the car i went to go in reverse, nothing, the light on the dash for R wouldnt light up. SO i messed around and got it to go in once in a while. I ran VAG and got no error codes.

so, today i took another stab at it and finally it went into limp home mode, leaving me without 5th gear, but everyother gear works including reverse. I checked again with VAG and got the following for the Tranny

VAG-COM Version: Release 311.2-N

Control Module Part Number: 8D0 927 156 BJ
Component and/or Version: AG5 01V 1.8l5VT USA 7812
Software Coding: 00000
Work Shop Code: WSC 00000
1 Fault Found:
00293 - Multi-function Switch (F125)
27-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent

I have searched on this matter, and have found that it is most likely the F125 switch that looks like a PITA to replace, so before doing it i decided to get some opinions.

any help would be appreciated

Default the range switch on the left side of the transmission is the likely culprit...

I've done quite a few, and they're not really that bad to do. Just need to be able to support the transmission so you can take the mount off to get to the part.
