2001 Audi A4 1.8T QMS AWM engine
No CEL, but this code has come up a few times recently. I have cleared the code last week - it is back.
<b>
17748/P1340/004928 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) / Engine Speed Sensor (G28): Incor. Correlation
Possible Causes
Timing Belt/Chain incorrectly installed
Timing Chain probably lengthened
Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) faulty
Engine Speed Sensor (G28) faulty
Possible Solutions
Check Timing Belt/Chain installation
Use Measuring Value Blocks (MVB) to Check Timing Chain
Check/Replace Camshaft Position Sensor (G40)
Check/Replace Engine Speed Sensor (G28)
</b>
My timing belt was done Nov 2006 at 61,000 miles
Replaced my Camshaft Position Sensor in March 2007 when I was throwing some codes which later turned out to really be the Camhaft Adjuster Unit, which was then replaced in April 2007 at 64,000 miles. Adjuster unit plastic rails were FUBAR. Unit replaced, oil pan dropped, oil pickup tube replaced - all clean.
Been clean since then.
Replaced MAF July 2008 at 76,000 miles due to code 17536 / P1128 (MAF replacement got rid of CEL) - also started seeing this 17748 / P1340 at this time.
I would assume the best bets are:
- timing belt stretched <how do I test as referenced above - use MVB to check timing belt>
- speed position sensor (wherever that is)
- camshaft position sensor (unlikely as it has been replaced already)
your thoughts? how to proceed?
