Why would VAG be unable to connect to air bag control module
First off, recently upgraded to current version of VAG software and am using a HEX-CAN interface.
Have had an airbag cel for a while now. Occurred after adding aftermarket stereo. Checked for K-line issue. Aftermarket wiring harness adapter is not shorting out k-line and light on my dongle is and has been solid green. Switched back to factory stereo, same issue. Auto scan brings up the warning window instructing to turn off ignition for 30 seconds, etc. after initially saying "cannot find (connect to?) module".
Could a shorted connection or loose connector cause this problem? Could a bad airbag control module be the culprit? In either case, shouldn't VAG be able to scan for these issues? Any help, guidance, suggestions appreciated!!!

Bad airbag module is certainly possible.
If it's truly dead, it obviously won't communicate.
It will also act dead if it's not getting power. So the first thing I'd do is verify (with a multimeter) that it's getting power on each pin that it's supposed to, and that the ground connections are good. While you're in there, verify the connection between pin 7 of the diagnostic socket and the relevant pin on harness to the airbag module. A broken connection there would also prevent communications.
If all of that checks out, then I'd assume your airbag module has died.
