"Choppy" tires?

My C6 has been making quite a bit of road noise for a bit now, after several trips to my local dealer where I was told I was hearing things several times (grrrr!!) Finally I had someone knowledgeable at a better dealer immediately identify that the tires in the front had become "choppy" my own diagnosis was that perhaps they were out of balance and it was causing some bounce or something but evidently that is not the case.
I think they said that new tires are .10 and "old tires" that won't pass inspection are at .02, mine were at .07 so obviously pretty early in their life. Is there anything that can be done to remedy the issue short of new tires? My plan will be to go back to Michelin's once these tires (stock that shipped on the car) are done.
