Default 1 or 4 new tires?

Yesterday I ran over some rather sharp object and it punctured the inner sidewall of my tire. Now, obviously, I cannot have that tire fixed but I was
wondering should I just replace the damaged one or get four new ones? I bought them used so I do not know exactly how many miles are on them. Thanks!

Default Discuss this with your local tire shop

I have tires that have been discontinued and replaced with a newer model. My tire dealer told me that he is hanging onto the remainder of the older model for customers like me in case we need a tire. I commented that his new tires will not match mine due to wear. He said that he can shave the new tire on one of his machines so that is has the same tread depth as the tires on my car (if it ever comes to that). I felt reassured by this.

So my suggestion is to see if your local tire shop can do the same thing. If so, then I would have them measure the tread depth of your remaining tires, and tell you how much would have to be shaved. Also ask him how much tread life you have left. If all of your tires are going to wear out in 2000 miles (or some other arbitrary number or your choosing), then replace them all. If it seems like the other three have a lot of life left, then get the one tire and have it shaved to match.

My $0.02 worth.
