Default 17" Winter Rims on 2013 2.0T A6?

I am about to purchase a 2013 2.0T A6 Quattro in Canada and am looking at winter wheel/tire options. In Canada the standard rim on any 2013 A6 2.0T Quattro is 18". The USA Audi website shows the smallest standard rim is 17". This leads me to believe that 17" rims would fit on a Canadian A6 model. Both TireRack and KAL Tire (Cdn) suggest the same thing. The problem is that I sent an e-mail to Audi Canada and they say that they only recommend 18" rims (7.5J x 18 ET37) with 225/50 R18 tires or the standard OEM 18" rims (8.0J x 18) with 245/45 R18 tires. They said that maybe the brakes are different on the base USA version, hence the size recommendation.

My main problem is that I want to put Nokian winter tires on the car and they only come in 225/55 R17 or 245/45 R18. I would also prefer the 225/55 R17 because they are narrower and cheaper.

Has anybody put 17" rims on an 2013 2.0T A6 Quattro or know if they will fit. If so, did you use OEM Audi rims or aftermarket?

I saw 17" rims on a 2.0 A6 and 3.0 A6 in the dealers lot.

Just a quick note for those who are looking for answers about whether a specific tire or wheel works. Use the Discount Tire ore Tire Rack websites to see what they offer. These companies have done the research to know what wheel sizes work - though they will not guarantee that every wheel manufacturer model will work since one has to have the correct offset.
