200 Mile review of my Avon Tech M550 A/S tires, for the TT

I was reading a few of the newer posts and saw that people have been looking for winter tires, just as I had been a few weeks ago. I thought I wanted winter tires, but instead I went with a set of High Performance all season tires that I purchased through Tirerack by the suggestion of a forum member here. I went with the Avon Tech M550 A/S in size 225/40/18 for my unmodified 2002 225 Quattro TT. Here are my impressions:
The ride is quieter, smoother and I feel more in control than my previous tires. I bought them because I wanted a quiet tire, and this one does its job admirably. I find that grip is great here in the summer, and I have the same expectations for them this winter. Many positive reviews have been written on the Tire Rack's site about them, and most are true and helpful. They have none of the trammeling (sp?) that my Pirelli's inflicted on me.
Again, nothing but high marks for these tires, and I hope I can have similar positive things to say this winter after I drive them for a bit.
Hope this helps someone on their search for a quality tire for the coming winter months.
Take care!
Sincerely, John Mason

I put on a set of these last fall, as a +1 from the 16" OE Conti's the car had been driven on since new. I also felt a nice difference in "connected to the road" and heard a noticable reduction in road noise.
I drove them through the winter, including a trip to Denver in December and found they were more than adequate on snowy roads - didn't encounter any icy conditions though.
I've put about 6000 miles on them now and am just as happy with them as I was new. Overall, I'm quite pleased with them - and the price was right too!
