Hey Guys, I'm new with the forum and I am in need of your knowledge!
Just bought a 2010 A4 Avant Premium Plus with 245/40 R 18 on it and I am getting ready to buy new winter tires to really tryout the quattro this winter
More I look at it more I'm getting confused with size... I would like to purshase 245/45R17 Bridgestone Blizzak WS70. Would that be the right size if I want to go in 17" ? I'm living in Quebec/Ontario area and I will need something good in deep snow and ice !
Thanks !

The 245/45R17 will work well and is a good choice. There is very little difference in wheel diameter between the 245/40R18 and the 245/45R17 and no fit-up or speedometer problems will result.
Another size option to consider is 225/50/17. This size is also available in the Blizzak WS70's. The smaller 225 mm cross section will be better in deeper snow. However, in the dry, the smaller cross section will not give as much grip as the wider tire and the higher 50 aspect ration will provide more flex in the sidewalls.
The third option is to stay with 245/40/18 tires, mount them on the exiting wheels and save the cost of new wheels. The 245/40/18 size is available in Blizzak WS70 tires. That would be my recommendation.
If a a huge fan of Nokian winter tires, but have had Blizzaks in the past and they are a great winter tires.
Hope this helps.

+1
If minus sizing to 17" wheels, I would also suggest 225/50R17.
