Passit, and she drives like a maniac, but is still concerned about tire noise. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks

Default low tire noise...

try Yokohama AVS dB.

My friend has A2s on his Accord. They are nice tires too - will last a long time and are quiet, but don't offer much grip. I'd go up to either Yokos dB or Dunlop SP5000.

Default Sp5000 or AVS dB

The Sp5000's are great handling tires.
The AVS DB's are super quiet, and have good handling.

Tough call between those two I'd say.

Default if wear is an issue, then A2s are definitely the way to go.

don't count on much in terms of performance, though. There's always a tradeoff.

Default I have experience with all three tires mentioned...

IMO

For starters, all 3 are pretty good tires.

Of the three the best all around is the Dunlop SP Sport 5000 (Ultra high performance all-season). Great handling tire, good in the dry and very good in the wet. Plus, it does well in the snow, not as good as a dedicated snow tire of course, but of the three, probably the best.

The A2 is also a very good tire. One category down from the 5000 (High performance all-season). It will definitely last longer than the 5000 and is probably as good in some areas, or even better, like road noise, but the 5000 is a better performance tire.

The AVS dB is also very good. Good in the dry, but they are not very good in the snow at all, and not as good in the wet than the 5000s.

Overall, she can't go wrong with any of these choices. The A2 is less performance than the other two, also cheaper, but should be fine for the Passat. If I was getting tires for my wife, and she owned a Passat, I would get the A2s. For myself in an A4, the 5000s.

If you want absolutely top of the line, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S are suppose to be awesome (haven't tried them myself), but big $$$, and the new Sumitomo's, HTR+, have had good initial reviews, but those are much more high performance based tires.

Good luck.

Default Re:Dunlop SP Sport A2's

Good stuff. Dry handling & ride very nice, and much of the wet traction/all season compound technology is shared with it s SP5000 big brother-

if she drived like a maniac, as you suggest (doh!) then you may want to bump her up to a UHP tire, like the 5000s though- call me & I can discuss with you!

My test driving & reviews are on the links below!

Call me if I can help!<ul><li><a href="http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/testResultsMake.jsp?tireMake=Dunlop">DUNLOP TESTS</a></li></ul>

Default Quiet and soft, good grip. Had SP5000,RE950,P6000 and I like the A2s.SP5000=awesome grip, bad wear.

Default Not the DB's.

You might be thinking of the AVS Intermediates.
The DB's are an all season with a pretty good wear rating.
