Default Well, there is that

I don't remember discussing Toyo treadwear with my tire guys, but they seemd to think that the PS2 would be at least as long lasting as any other ultra high performance tire. That's one point, if you're looking at these tires, you shouldn't expect a really long life for them. Secondly, I can't make any sense of the consumer reviews comments about treadwear at the websites because there are so many variables; driving style, road conditions, suspension geometry, inflation . . . . But, since the rating for the Toyo is higher, I'd assume they'll last a bit longer.

The PS AS will last longer, but you don't get the same handling. Same with other all season or touring tires.

I'm trying to decide between the PS2 and the equivalent Goodyear. Very close in the tirerack tests and the Goodyear is a little cheaper. Only thing is, I can get the PS2 from Costco for a better price considering that mounting, balancing, rebalancing, and road hazard warranty are all included in the price.

Costco has the PS2? I don't see it online, at least not in 225/45-17

Default They have it in my 18 inch sizes for my Jag (staggered)

They don't have all sizes, depends on what deals they make with their suppliers. Did you input your car to see what they do have?

Treadwear ratings are not standardized across different brands

Your tire guy was thinking of T1-S. T1-R will stay much quieter.

Default I don't think so

Not disputing that the R will be quieter than the S, but my tire guys were one of the original Toyo dealers in SoCal and have sold more Toyos than anyone. We were talking about the R. Still, it seems like a good buy just based on price. The prices I get are so low, however, that it's usually best for me to just to get the best.

Another thing to consider is that some tires are better on different cars. Maybe the Toyo is best on an Audi 4wd, but the Michelin best on a Jag R with staggered sizes? Could be.

Default Price difference seems small - only $25, according to tiresavings.com

When we're talking only a $100 difference for a full set, the difference is small enough not to base the decision on that.

I'd likely end up paying $100 just in shipping and mounting by the time it's all done.

Default And who has enough miles on an R to determine that yet?

IMO your tire guy was guessing based on T1-S experience.. that's all. Pretty much everyone who has T1-Rs have very little wear on them, and they're still quiet. (It's one of the focuses for the design changes Toyo made for the T1-R)

Not saying the Michelins are good.. they are :-) They just don't last very long.
