Skidded around a curve on Beach Drive today doing about 40 with slightly wet road. Anyone have recommendations on the best performining tire for wet roads, not just braking, but cornering? I currently have Goodyear Eagle LS. They don't seem that great on wet or snow. I was considering Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus or Continental Touring Contact.
Also curious, does anyone in D.C. bother with snow/ice tires? If so, which ones are best for our variable warm/cold weather?

Check the archives for a lot of related information.
I went to Michelin Pilot Alpins because my Sports Package Dunlop 8000Es were getting a little goosey as it got colder, and there was a virtually unanimous feeling that they were not usable in snow of any sort --- or even on colder, dry roads. Your all seasons should be okay around here (Maryland suburbs, DC) but you could go to a higher performance all season (Dunlop has a good ultra-high performance all season) if you want better holding power, or you can go to a winter tire. Having said that, I washed several cars on Sunday in shorts and river sandals in our 68 degree (F) winter weather, so it may not be a necessary investment. With the 8000s, I didn't feel I had an option on winter tires.

and I'm very satisfied with them. They're handling capabilities are much better than the stock Goodyear RS-A's (can't speak for Eagle LS) but not as good (obviously) as the SP8000s. I have these on year around in upstate NY - they're OK in the snow but not great. For DC, they may be a nice compromise.
