Big Brake/Winter Wheel problem need advice

Okay I checked the archives and it seems that everyone was recommending a thin small wheel. Something along the lines of 15x7 or 16x7. Well right now I have the stock celebration wheels(17x8 I think...not sure) and was thinking of using those as my winter wheels and mounting winter tires on them. The main reason being that I'm upgrading to bigger brakes that will most likely not fit in a wheel smaller than 17's.
So is this really a good idea to use the stock celebration wheels (assuiming snow tires are mounted) or is this a really stupid idea. I just want to be safe on the mountain. I go snowboarding alot and see my fair share of inclement weather. Up until this year I've been sticking traction cables on my 5000 quattro. However, my A4 has the sport suspension and can't put the cables on. Not enough room and too scary for the suspension.

I don't remember anyone complaining about their choice of 17" winter wheels and tires.
I used 225/45-17 Dunlop M2 winter tires on stock S4 Avus wheels (17") last winter, and the traction was incredible. I think many others reported the same excellent traction with the Dunlops, and with other winter tires (such as Michelin Pilot Alpin, Bridgetone Blizzak, Pirelli 210/240, etc). So I think you'll be fine with 17" wheels/tires for winter.

with MOST brake upgrades, I suggest looking at wheels by car- S4. If you look at what fits an S4 clearance typically should not be an issue.
I do have templates available for most aftermarket upgrades, so I can test fit one by S4 to be sure when you order if in question.
Call me DIRECT so I can discuss your tire options once you select the wheels!
Thanks!
Eddie
