Default comfortable tires-225/45/17

I'm hoping that Gary or some other knowledgable folks will reply to this- I have an Audi A4 Quattro with the sport suspension and am looking to replace my Pirelli P6000's. I am looking for a bit more ride comfort/quiet and tread life knowing I will trade off in handling. Price is somewaht of a concern. Best suggestions please?

Default P6000s are already rather comfy and not quick handlers, so you won't be trading off much...

Look at ContiSportContact2, Dunlop SP9000/9090, Falken ST-115.

If you want long treadwear, pick something from an all-season category: Kumho ASX, Pirelli PZero Nero M&S.

Default This makes me wonder about their quality though...

The number of reported blowouts on FK451 on AudiWorld has been significant. Let's hope they've engineered their other tire models a little better.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/2362875.phtml</a

Default Ouch! Query for tire experts here; who makes Falken tires?

Falken is a subsidiary of Sumitomo Rubber Industries, which I thought was a tire manufacturer, but on Sumitomo's website, Sumitomo Tire, another sub, says: "Because Sumitomo Tire is not a manufacturer, we do not have a volume perspective. We are not involved in disruptive channels, OE, and mass merchants that drain inventory and drain our dealers' abilities to compete. Yet, our products come from one of the world's acknowledged quality-focused manufacturers."

So who makes Sumitomo tires? Who makes Falkens?

Sumitomo owns Dunlop, at least partially, so maybe they use their factories?

Default But then Goodyear has stakes in them too...

"Sumitomo produces tyres under the Goodyear brand name in Japan while Goodyear makes tyres for Sumitomo's operations in the United States. "

It's so complicated...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/the_company_file/271308.stm</a

Default Ah, Ohtsu, answering my own question

Falken tires are made by a Japanese company called Ohtsu, which also has a plant in Rancho Cucamonga CA. Maybe the bad ones are made in California. ;-)

Sumitomo has a joint venture with Goodyear whereby they seem to save shipping and distribution costs, among other things, by making tires for each other. Sumitomo also owns a piece of Ohtsu, which makes the tires for Sumitomo's subsidiary, Falken. Clear as mud, right?
