Fireston SZ50 vs. Dunlop 8000
I have some sizing questions regarding these tires. As background, here are some specs about their sizes, picked up from their Web sites:
TREAD OVERALL REVS/
DIAM WIDTH WIDTH MILE
SP8000 205/55/16 24.9 7.2 8.1 841
SP8000 225/50/16 24.9 8.5 8.9 841
SZ50 205/55/16 24.7 6.5 8.4 879
SZ50 225/50/16 24.7 7.0 9.1 879
SZ50 225/55/16 25.6 7.0 9.1 851
1) Does the SZ50 put a lot less tread on the ground? Is this why it's got such a small tread width, i.e., is it a "rounder" tire?
2) Would the SZ50 225/55/16 work OK on an A4, considering that its REVS/MILE are much closer to the stock wheels than the SZ50 225/50/16?
3) How does the SZ50 225/55/16, which is .7 inches larger in diameter than the SP8000 205/55/16 have a higher REVS/MILE value (851 vs. 841)? Is there some kind of other variation, such as tire pressure, when they calculate these values?
IMHO: If the SZ50 225/55/16 would work on the A4, that would seem like a desirable tire because its slightly larger size would fill up the empty fender space slightly more than stock.
Thanks.
