Default Gary, welcome back, hope you had a good vacation. Question about tires for my wife's Nissan Murano.

I'm thinking about winter tires for our 2003 Murano SL (with AWD and VDC). Looks like two options on TR are the Dunlop Grandtrek WT M3 and the Dunlop Grandtrek SJ5. Any info you can provide on them? I'm guessing the WTM3 is pretty good, but probably overkill for her everyday driving (i.e. non-performance)? If so, what can you tell me about the SJ5? Mostly concerned with traction (snow/ice>wet>dry), though road noise and treadwear are considerations as well.

And at some point I'll need to replace her original Goodyear Eagle LS too with either a summer or all-season tire. But it looks like even though it's been 2-3yrs, there still aren't any other options in 235/65-18...that about right? Any idea if 255/60-18 will fit that vehicle? I looked at the specs of a few of that series and it does look like some of them would be okay on 8.0" wide wheels, which the Murano has.

Anyway, would appreciate your input when you have time, though I'm sure you'll be quite busy upon your return.

Thanks.

Brian

Thanks, the vacation was great.

255/60R18 should also fit with no problem. We've found that the SJ5 has a bit better snow/ice traction, while the WTM3 gives up some snow capability for better dry road handling and grip for a lighter snow area.

Great, thanks for the quick reply. Any recommendations for 255/60-18 then?

The tires that are made in that size are fairly high performance, meaning more noise and ride stiffness along with the increased dry grip. The only exception is the GY Wrangler HP, but this tire has not been great, I'd prefer the LS over that one.
