Default Gary - What's the maximum offset...

I can use on a lowered b5 A4 - assuming 18 x 8.5 wheels? Can I go with a 45mm offset since it seems the stock 16" as well as the 17 x 7.5 S4 wheels maintain a 45mm offset? According to the offset calculator, the 45mm offset will keep the width increases proportional on the inside and outside of the wheel. And with an 8.5" wheel, is it wide enough so that the outside will sit flush with the body of the car?

8.5" wheels with 45mm offset is pretty aggressive for a lowered B5 A4. If you check the clearance between the tire and inside front suspsension you'll see what I mean. Also the vast majority of aftermarket wheels that are 8.5" wide will probably be closer to 35mm offset. If it were me I would limit myself to 8" and 35-40mm offsets.

wheels

Thanks. That helps eliminate alot of choices. Also, does it have any effect on performance / durability if most of the wheels weight is on the outer side of the hub as opposed to it being evenly distributed on either side? And does tire rack offer any wheels made to spec because I didn't notice any 8" wheels with a 40mm offset.

We have noticed no effect on performance on any wheels within these recommended offset ranges. We're only talking a few mm here, so it is not normally a concern, even for track driving.
