wheels? or tires?
Would you need wider than 8.5"? (wheels)
If tires, it depends not only on offset, but also what tire you're going with. There are pretty large variances in tire width at the tread. Some tires you could fit 245s, others 235s, and some maybe not more than 225. (and again, depends on the offset of your wheels)

Wheels and tires. Looking for best recommendation that won't cost an arm and a leg and won't stick out beyond the wheel wells.

Sorry, just not sure what fits right on the A6.
For my car, an 18x8 (or 8.5) ET35 with 235/40/18 or 225/40/18 would be just right.

Thanks. Looking for tire/rim package for San Diego, barely rains. Just want the most tire surface touching the street without going beyond the wheel wells. Thank again.

The 235/40-18 size is going to be the best 18" size without rubbing or fender lip rolling with an 18X8 ET 35 range wheel.
