Got my rims refurbished (5-spoke alloy). Should they feel gritty and lose their glossyness?

I also posted this question on the C% A6 forum as that is the one I usually use. Thanks for any thoughts.

Default not unless you asked for a matte finish. If they were prepped properly and

either powdercoated or painted and cleared right they should have some gloss and feel smooth. i would take them back and ask why?

Default My INDI guarantedd they would come out as good as new! And hekeeps saying they look great to him,

even after I pointed out light and dark areas on each spoke, uneven sanded area all over the place and a gritty feel and very dull shine vs. the original smooth glossy feel. He even compared the smooth feel of the wheel on the car next to us vs. the light sandy feel of my refinished wheels and still argued that he thinks they look great. FWIW, before he did any work I asked him if I should buy new wheels or get them redone through his wheel guy (especially because his cost to refinsh each wheel was $150 a wheel. I went the refinishing route because my mechanic said they would come out as good as new. UGH!!!!
He did say his wheel guy will do them over, but there are so many areas that he screwed up already that I'm worried he'll ruin the wheels. Long story short I paid $600 and got back some pretty crappy wheels.

Oh, thanks for the follow up post and sorry for the vent. I think I'm going to get my bank involved tomorrow.

I referred someone on the B7 S4 board to Viking Wheel Service vikingwheel.com They did my 18" BBS/S4 wheels and they came out baby-butt smooth. Is there just tons of dust in the paint?
