It will come in 205-225/45-50/17 size. What would be ultimate choice, price and quality wise?
Hankook W300 in 225/45/17 -$106ea
Graspic DS-2 in 215/45/17 -$102ea
Blizzak WS-50 in 215/45/17 -$124ea
Pilot Alpin PA 2 in 205/50/17 -$130ea
Any experience with either. I'm in Chicago so will see lots of snow. I drive mostly in the city but do get out of state around Midwest often. It will be my first snow tire. Thanks guys!

Excellent grip on ice & snow, but quite squirmy on dry pavement (especially when new). Just about any Q-rated snow tire will give the best ice/snow performance.

I have the W300's on my A4 right now and they are good in the snow and good in the dry. If i was spending more time on ice and snow than on dry roads i would get the WS-50. But i spend more time on the dry roads so i went with the W300. I wouldn't even look at the DS2.

I do care about snow traction for when I leave the city, so this will be mostly highway driving but could be in snow.

fine in the mtn snows this year. I have not gotten the car stuck yet and used the front bumper to push a fair ammount of snow up at breckenidge. Craig runs the WS-50's and i know he will have slightly better ice/snow traction than me. But when i am on the dry roads my W300's still have a 'v' speed rating and the dry handling is still pretty good. This is compared to the 'q' speed rating of the WS-50. Everything is a compromise. I am very happy with the W300's and several of my freinds here bought the W300's for their Subaru's, Audi's and their VW's. It is a great bang for the buck.
