I was going to take my rear wheels off on Sunday to install splash guards, but when I tried to use wheel wrench, it doesn't even come close to fitting? Is there caps that have to be removed on the lug nuts or is there an adapter that fits into the wrench?

Inside the tool box, you should find a small piece of metal, round with an angeled tip, it it used to remove those caps.

...the metal piece you speak of is used to remove the big center cap on the 15" rims.
The tool to remove the plastic caps on the lug-bolts looks like a big plastic tweezer, it can be purchased from your dealer if yours is missing....or the dealer will probably just give you one.
