i have a dilemma. i need to decide which tire to go with for the winter season. i have 2 sets of wheels
one of which is dedicated summer set with s-03 on them. i was using dunlop sp5000 ultra high perf. tires
for the winter season and i was very happy with them... here comes the question:
i am considering perf. winter tires to replace sp5000. bridgestone blizzak LM-22 or dunlop winter sport
M2. considering winter driving conditions WITHOUT packed snow just light slush, OR dry winter, OR wet
winter, are these tires going to perform better than the sp5000 (considering grip, cornering, stability and
traction, comfort...)
thanks
Oggie S.

H-rated performance snow tires, rated for "severe" winter weather. Necessarily, the dedicated winter tires should provide performance far superior to the all weathers, which do everything ok, but nothing well.

i wanted also your opinion on dry winter weather with temps bellow freezing point and wet conditions with temps around freezing point... i am not interested in severe winter driving conditions since it is known that any winter tire will beat any other tire...

and I've been very impressed by their performance when the ground is clear. Granted, I don't push as hard on the snow tires as I would on summer tires, but I'm still a fairly aggressive driver during the winter months (fast corners in the rain, late braking).
In freezing (near-freezing) temperatures, winter tires are going to beat an all-season tire hands down, especially during those first 20 minutes of driving after being parked out in the cold. And even more so when there's ice or frost on the roads.
In short, if you're going to have a dedicated set of tires for the winter months, go with the H-rated snows. They'll get you through anything without sacrificing too much performance.

in 235-45-17 mounted on the 4.2 sport wheels, in both dry and wet weather (it has yet to snow in the NY metro area). You can still throw the car around, and they are not a whole lot more noisy.

My A6 now handles like a pig. I put MZ-01 tires on the stock 17 Sport wheels because I live in Northern Virginia which doesn't get much snow, but often has ice-covered roads, on which the MZ-01 is said to excel. I had Dunlop Winter Sport M2 tires (225/50-16) on my Subaru SVX all-wheel-drive. I thought the Dunlop tires were so-so. I look forward to putting Continental ContiSportContact II or Bridgestone S-03 (255/40-ZR-17 on my A6 next Spring to replace the OEM Continental tires.
