I'm going nuts here. I'm changing my rear brake pads on my A4, and I'm pretty mechanically inclined. I have made a tool to turn the piston back into the caliper, and it turns smoothly with resistance, but it's NOT going back in!!! I've been at it for about 15 minutes continuously, and tried the other side too!!! I've tried pushing in HARD while turning, pushing in just enough to hold the tool in place, and everything in between. What gives??? My pistons have a good amount they need to go back inside (64,000 miles...they are pretty thin), but I've measured it, and the pistons haven't budged... Parking brake is off, by the way, just like in the FAQ.
If anyone is so inclined, my phone is 919-498-6361 if anyone wants to call and help..
TIA for any help...

1 open the resivoir top and place a rag around the opening.
2 assure that there are no kinks in the brake hose.
3 apply pressure to the piston. 3 years ago when I put Redbox pads on I had a slight ridge on the piston. I had to use a C clamp DO NOT apply high clamping force!!! and keep rotating the piston. I had to as the piston retracted keep a slight force against the piston. If you have added fluid to the brake system watch the possible overflow. The fluid makes sort of a mess.
Good luck.

A good auto parts place may have them.
I had to use alternating c-clamp and spanner wrench to turn. I am indebeted to Craig for his help there as he was able to apply more force than I was to the them to retract.
