In my opinion the only reason to go with a 235 is to have the option of going with the smaller 40 series sidewall without going to an 18. so 225/45/17 or 235/40/17...there have been some reports of 235/40's rubbing but many people who say they are just barely ok(albeit with spedometer error)...i suspect 235/45's would simply not work on the a4...
