I cant stand the noise any more. The car wanders all over on the grooved highway.
I would like some opinions on these choices. I will purchase them from the Tire Rack as always.
A brief description of the tires listed would be great.. I am after very good dry traction. Wet is not of concern to me. I really do not care about mileage as long as they last 10-15k. I would think that any of these tires would do that.
99 A41.8tqm-Neuspeed springs swaybars ect...
I run 17x8 Tubolare wheels.. Tire size is 225x45x17...
Bridgestone Potenza S-02 poleposition
Michelin Pilot Sport
Yokohama AVS Sport
Sumitomo HTRZ-2
Kumho Ecsta 712
Bridgestone RE730
Which one should I get?
Thanks for your time..

...get the AVS Sports. From what I've read, they can't be beat for the money. I have the S-02 PPs on my A4 and M3 and they're great, but they're about $40 per tire more than the AVS (last time I checked). Not too many grooves here in Denver, but the S-02s don't seem to wander. This one really isn't too difficult ; )
Let me break it down for you...
Bridgestone Potenza S-02 pole position - have 'em, loved 'em. Dry traction was excellent and track performance was very good. Lasted about 13,000 miles. Problem - too expensive for a 225/17 (I am not going to buy them again).
Michelin Pilot Sport - I have a lot of experience with this tire on a rear-drive CLK430. They are excellent tires... very good dry traction and superb ride. They do make a lot of noise though and wet performance is only decent.
Problem - still way to expensive.
Yokohama AVS Sport - I'll be getting these... all the good stuff as with the S-02s, just a hell of a lot cheaper. Track performance in both wet and dry is very impressive and they look pretty cool too. Buy these tires!!
Sumitomo HTRZ-2 - no... trust me, you won't like them. Excellent tire for the money but not much else. Very noisy after a couple K's too.
Kumho Ecsta 712 - don't know anything about this tire... sorry
Bridgestone RE730 - Once again... no. These are equivalent to Pirelli p-7000ss. An excellent tire by all-season standards and the price is right... but this is a major-mileage tire (as far and UH-Perf is concerned). Just not the tire for you.
HTH,
Oh, and BTW, I've had considerable experience with each of the tires I've described above. All opinions are my own and etc, etc, etc... I'm not trying to flame anybody's choice of tire... each one has it's advantages.
Dan

I just bought these and they are incredible as usual with the Toyos. I had the T1+ before and was vey satisfied with them as well. I have run BFG ZR's, P7000's and these are incredibly better in every aspect. INcredible dry and wet grip with great mileage, i got 25,000+ from the T1+. The new T1S has the S-02/AVS type V design. They are very cheap as well. Less than the AVS sport.
I can tell you though, my brother had the Michelin Pilot SPorts on his highly modified new Jetta and they wore out in 6,000 miles past the wear inidicator, worst wearing tire I have seen yet. This was in a 225-40-18 size though.
Just some thoughts.

Said it before, say it agian!
We just did a drive of the S02PP/Pilot Sport/PZero Rosso test last week (test results posted on the TR site shortly), and the overall experience you still cannot beat it, esp with the wet traction factor. Ride comfort, handling and wet performance combined makes it the king of the hill.
The AVS Sports are a close tire in mannerisms & a good bang for the buck for the max-performance handling, but a bit less $$.
Looking in the UHP category the RE730s I think are becoming the most popular tire for the car for a good bang for the buck there also.
Hope this helps- feel free to call me to discuss your need, or when you are ready for them!
Thanks!
Eddie
