Default Are the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S worth the dough?

I'm looking for a good all season tire that has good tread wear (at least better than my dunlop sp8000's). I want a sporty looking tire as well. Should I rock the Michelin's or go for something cheaper?

Thats a tough call. The Michelin does many things very well, but is not the absolute best in any one area. If one were to ask for the best handling 'all season' tire in this size, the Sport A/S would be the answer. If you can give up some dry traction and steering response, the Conti Extreme contact is a good alternative to the Michelin .

If you don't need winter/snow traction, but are just after more wear, I'd check out the Dunlop 9000.

Hope this helps!<ul><li><a href="http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AR8&amp;url=/tires/index.jsp">Tires</a></li></ul>

What type of mileage do the Michelin's get based on normal driving vs Dunlop 9000?

These are very rough estimates since so much will vary based on conditions/driving style etc...

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ~25,000-30,000 miles
Sport 9000 ~20,000-25,000 miles

Default You were on track until you said "sporty looking". After Sport A/S on 2 cars.....

I can say that I love the tires.

Had 225/50-16 on the old '98 A6. Based on wear when I got rid of the car, they would go 30-35000 miles.

Have them now on my allroad 245/50-17. Again love them. Figuring 25k miles on the allroad.

Great in the wet, reasonably quiet and comfortable, responsive turn-in, very good grip in turns (not like an SP9000 though). However, I do not consider them sporty looking. In fact, in a given size, they appear a bit narrower than the summer tread competition. Would I buy anything else? Nope.

I agree that they aren't too sporty, but sportier looking than others.

Default I think he meant it shouldn't matter.. and I agree.

I don't care what a tire looks like. I care how it performs. If the functionlity of a tire results in good looks, then fine.

Default Yup- not the sportiest, but sporty enough when you add in the other great features....

except price. That is the toughest part to justify.
