Default Mis-matched tires on Audi A6 4.2Q

I have always been told not to mis-match tire treads/tread life on my Audi.

I have a two new M+S tires, and two that are 1/2 way through their tread life.

Should I bite the bullet and buy two new tires to match, or put the new ones on the rear, older on the front?

Thanks,
HSS

Default Do it

and then save up for replacing the diff.

4/32nd difference in outside diameter is all that is allowed by Audi. I have see cars that had to have diffs replaced because of miss matched tires.

Choice would be to buy two more new M+S tires or to shave down the two new ones you have to match.

Default New on rear, old on front is OK.

It will create a small differential across the, uh, differential. Which is why its called that :-)

Ideal? No. Life threatening? Only if you're a lawyer protecting some big company.

Default Just me is right - not life threatening - but cost threatening - you will probably ruin your

Default I'd recommend 4 new tires, and rotate your new set properly throughout their life.

If you buy two new ones now, then you'll face the same dilemna again when your old ones are done.

Also, I'd put the new ones on the front personally, since they wear down faster up there. However with this configuration you'd need to be careful as the rear would have lower grip especially in heavy rain and the back end of the car may want to step out.
