wet performance is paramount. most tires will grip like crazy when its dry. what are the best for both?
also must be available in a 235/40/18. going on 18x8 abt A10'S.
thanks.

I also upgraded from RE730's to S03's, and I agree with you regarding the improved noise levels, and dry & wet grip.
However I think that the S03's tramline MUCH worse than the RE730s ever did.

... link to an earlier post. Based on this, the S-03 is not the best choice for the wet, which surprised me.

Evo tire test

I think these tires are overrated (I have them), and they aren't a great wet performance tire, but are quite good as all in the test were.
Of course the test was done on a light Ford Focus FWD. I wonder how weight and quattro would affect outcome.
I considered the Toyo Proxes T1-S as a tie for first choice when I was deciding, but went with the S-03s because of the stiffer sidewall and the subjective turn-in and stable handling this would give on a heavy car. But, now, I'd probably pick the Toyos. Are a favorite of April, who knows tires well... but her cars are lighter and that was my only concern, shared also by my tire installer. So, I picked S-03s.

They tires were very quick in the dry at Mid-Ohio, where the sig photo was taken, but they have another problem.
As you probably know, the S-03 is a heavy tire. The 255/35-20 S-03 weighs 31 lb, 4 lb more than the 244/45-18 SP8000 they replaced ... which had one in more sidewall rubber all around. This 4 lb of extra rubber builds heat when it flexes, and in the 85 oF Mid-Ohio temperatures, I hit 240 oF tread temperatures. Needless to say, once the tires got this hot, they were a little greasy.
I'm looking forward to the first track test/comparison of the new PZero Nero, which is apparently designed for heavier cars.
